Craven Concrete were approached by W A Developments Ltd on behalf of Edmund Nuttall Ltd to tender for approximately 420 metres of precast units to strengthen the Moorcock Viaduct on the famous Settle to Carlisle railway line. We received an order for the units provided that half could be delivered within 3_ weeks from date of order and the rest only 5 days later. As you can imagine, time was not on our side.
We immediately started work on the seven moulds needed to enable us to meet the delivery date working day and night (well almost). In the meantime discussions were taking place about the possibility to cast 210m of centre drain units for the same project with the same delivery dates.
Only a fortnight before our deadline we received the order for the centre units; that left us with just 14 days to manufacture the moulds, cast and deliver the units. Despite many phone calls from a worried Production Manager at Nuttalls we managed to deliver everything on time.
Additionally, Craven Concrete received a delivery of two railway bridges from Lundy Projects, who fabricated the bridges for Midland Metro Alliance. Craven Concrete then concrete the ends of the bridges so they can sit on the Precast Cills.
